Be Prepared Before You Arrive
-
Remain Calm
Your pet is scared, in pain, and trying to protect themselves. Approach them calmly, slowly, and gently. Secure them in a kennel or with a towel and carefully move them to the car. If possible, have a friend drive so you can care for your pet.
-
Don't Attempt Home Remedies
There’s a lot of good and bad information out there, but the safest plan is to allow a trained professional help your pet. Often times, home remedies can cause more harm to your pet. Keep them safe by bringing them straight to VERGI.
-
Let Us Know You're Coming
This is not a requirement, but rather an opportunity for our staff to be ready and waiting to help your pet when you arrive. The more information you can provide about your pet’s emergency, the better prepared we can be to help your pet recover.
It’s wise to have an emergency plan before an emergency takes place.
Once You Arrive at VERGI
-
From the moment you arrive, you can count on…
Certified Doctors and Staff
Advanced Training in Emergency Medicine
Critical and Urgent Care
State-of-the-Art Equipment
On-Site Surgical Center
In-House Lab & Pharmacy
-
Whether you call us from the car or come inside, a technician will evaluate your pet immediately. We operate on a triage basis, ensuring the most critical cases are examined and treated first. If it is a life threatening situation, they will be seen immediately. Otherwise, you will be notified of the wait time for your pet to be treated by a doctor or nurse.
-
Once the seriousness of the emergency is determined, a treatment plan will be created for your pet. The technician will go over this with you. Please know that sometimes other health issues occur when we are tending to your pet, which may not be on the treatment plan.
Don’t be alarmed when we ask what the “code status” is for your pet (this means attempting CPR on your pet if necessary). This information is required of all pets that we treat at VERGI, and does not mean we anticipate a life threatening situation.
-
Based on your treatment plan, you will be charged up front for the emergency services we provide for your pet. VERGI is a privately funded veterinary hospital which must depend upon patient fees for support. No governmental or grant support is available for our operation. Fees for emergency veterinary services may surpass what you would pay at your regular veterinarian’s office due to the cost of functioning on a 24 hour emergency and critical care basis, including weekends and holidays.
-
We know how scary it can be when your pet is in an emergency situation. We commit to keep you updated throughout the process. These updates usually come by text message, so be sure to provide the front desk with your contact information.
-
Once all services are performed on your pet, an email will be sent to your primary care veterinarian so they can be aware of your pet’s health. It’s important that they know how to continue to care for your pet after to help prevent further emergencies.
-
When your pet is released from our facilities, a credit or additional charge will be determined on a final invoice. This will also include any medication costs since we have an on-site pharmacy for your convenience.
Please know that we do not offer payment plans at VERGI. Instead, we have partnered with the CareCredit credit card to help pay for any services. We also accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash and personal checks with a valid driver’s license.
